Disneyland Hotel
- A great place to stay!! By Michael from Long Beach, California
...We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel on Jan.1st and 2nd. I was a little
hesitant to stay at this hotel in the past due to the bad reviews I have read on
this site. But I am a Disneyland Annual passholder and we were able to stay at
the AP rate which was $89.00 a night. I thought this was as great time to try it
myself. I don't know what those people who gave the Disneyland Hotel a bad
review were talking about. We had a great time. And we went during a storm! When
we first pulled up, I decided to vallet park being that it was raining and I had
my mother and two kids with me, I needed help with the luggage. A man greeted me
right away took my luggage, and my keys and did it in such a way that made us
feel welcome. I went to check in and I was greeted very nicely. We were supposed
to get a standard room which would have been in the marina tower, but because the
room was not ready yet, the lady checking us in upgraded us to the sierra tower,
with a beautiful view of Downtown Disney! The rooms are not small. They are
average rooms, not to fancy, but this is a family hotel. The room was clean and
came with a referigerator, which is very much needed when you are traveling with
kids. The noise level was never a problem for us. We had our window open alot of
the time and happy sounds of kids laughing and people having a good time could
be heard, but if you closed the window, the sounds were shut out. And Social
Distortion (a punk band) was playing at the House of Blues at night, and we
never heard any music coming from Downtown Disney. We ordered room service
one night, and I found the prices to be reasonable. The food came in forty
minutes and was good. The lady who delivered was very friendly. later that night
we decided to walk around, and found Dumbo the movie playing in a room next to
Goofy's kitchen. We watched it while enjoying the free apple cider the hotel was
giving. The next day we went to Disneyland, but it was raining so hard we had to
come back for a little while. When we got back to the room I dedided to dry our
wet clothes. When I went down to find the laundry room, I asked one of the hotel
employees for directions. Not only did he walk me there, but he helped me carry
all the clothes I had in my arms. I
recommend this hotel. I don't know if I would pay the full price for the rooms,
but if you have a chance to get these rooms at a discount, take it. The
convienence of the closeness to Disneyland along with the Disney friendliness
that comes with the hotel is worth it to at least try it one time.
Antigua, Caribbean - I had a great time! By Rex
Just got back from Antigua and I had a great time. I knew little about Antigua before going there and to my surprise it was much better than what I expected. Contrary to a message I just read, chatboards like this one helped a lot on my vacation planning, regarding of who participates here, since I really don't know who they are, I must say this information site is very helpful. Simple as this, questions and doubts get answers here.
Hotel - I stayed at Rex Halcyon and had a great time there, definitively for the money I paid it was probably the best deal I could get on the island which I found expensive. I have read in different places over the net regular to bad reviews about this hotel, however I did not experience any of it. On the contrary, this hotel is very nice and the beach is great. I never ate there though so I wouldn't be able to say, but did have a beer and a great pina colada.
Eli's trip was fun and interesting, even though the weather didn't help us much since the hurricane was a couple of hundred miles away from us. However, Eli and Francis did a great job trying to show us their island(s) and the beautiful hidden spots regarding of the situation. I recommend this trip, specially if you want to see nature and spots you can only see by boat.
I also recommend renting a car and just driving around the island. Signs are not very helpful, but try using restaurant signs to move around, for example to get to English Harbor area follow Colombo signs.
I have visited probably half of the islands in the West Indies, since I am from the Caribbean myself (Puerto Rico) and I truly believe Antigua is one of the finest. Basically 3 reasons - beaches are amazing, people are friendly and there is some history for sightseeing(not found in many islands).
Food at Antigua is pretty good, although expensive(lobster seems to be the best deal compared to other dishes), I ate at coconut grove and trade winds hotel (forgot the name of the rest.) which I recommend. Shirley Heights is fun on Sunday afternoon, specially for the great music (two bands - steel band and reggae) and the great view, however I recommend eating somewhere else before getting there.
This trip was my first to Antigua and definitively won't be the last one.
